So I put on some dramatic music that I thought would go well with opening my first portal and stared at the swirling purple entryway until the track finished, at which point I walked in. Immediately after exiting the portal on the other side I take two steps forward and immediately fall down a hole.
I lived, but OH GOD WHAT THE FUCK IS WITH THESE CREEPY SOUND EFFECTS ALL AROUND ME ITS COMING FROM THE WALLS THEY'RE PROBABLY GHASTS OH GOD THEY PROBABLY HAVE ME SURROUNDED HELP I'M GOING TO DIE HERE DON'T LET THEM GET ME I JUST GOT HERE I WANTED TO EXPLORE FOR A BIT AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH.
Edit: I'll be adding to this post as I progress further into hell here, so keep checking back here if you're interested in reading about
7:08pm EST: Got out of the hole, turns out there was only one Ghast directly above me. But there's several more of them visible off in the distance that are constantly making moaning/laughing/screaming loudly, making it seem like they're on top of you. I haven't gone too far into hell (or the Nether, as Notch is calling it now) so I can't say much about it yet, but be prepared to shit your pants when you first enter, and make sure you watch your step.
7:12pm: Turns out Ghasts can shoot their fireballs at you from afar, or their size makes it hard to judge how far away they actually are from me. That one on the left started attacking me from that distance. I thought they would use the fireball attack from medium to close range like skeletons would. Then again, I really shouldn't be comparing Ghasts to skeletons, it's like comparing a Gouf to a Zaku. These are no skeletons boy, NO SKELETONS.
7:26pm: Compasses appear to be useless here. The needle on mine is just spinning randomly even when I'm not moving. I thought it would at least point to where the portal is, but I was wrong. I guess I'll just have to rely on landmarks, natural or man-made.
7:31pm: The Ghasts seem to be prone to haplessly floating into the lavafalls scatter throughout the Nether. I'm finding the constant screaming to be quite unnerving.
7:38pm: Almost fell into a lava pool just now, I was saved by landing on a small ledge on the side of the cliff I fell off of. Had to mine my way back up, forgot to bring ladders with me. Going back to the normal world to grab some.
7:55pm: After spending some time in the normal world, it's become evident that Notch rushed this update. On the way up from the portal room I built deep beneath Fortress Schizophrenia, I noticed that all of the brown mushrooms in one of the caves I walked through were completely black. Removing and replacing the nearby torches (notice how I said torches and not lanterns, as Notch wasn't able to complete them in time) fixed that, but an even bigger glitch presented itself once I was topside. It is no longer snowing in the lands of The Rise. I guess Notch must have broken the weather with this update. Makes me curious about how biomes turned out. I'd go and check but with existing maps biomes don't start appearing until you start traveling far enough for new chunks to generate. For now, I'll just see what else is broken here in The Rise.
I don't know that feel.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck though!
Minecraft sounds like a lot of fun but I'm afraid I'll get addicted.
ReplyDeleteI'm not ready to go back to Minecraft yet.
ReplyDeleteminecraft and halloween, the best match ever!
ReplyDeleteI started a new map for the update. I haven't made a portal yet.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your post. I’ve been thinking about writing a very comparable post over the last couple of weeks, I’ll probably keep it short and sweet and link to this instead if thats cool. Thanks. Minecraft Advertisements
